Janet Kelsey moved from the North of England to Norfolk in 2003, after pursuing a busy career as a professional singer, teacher and conductor.
As an alto soloist Janet has performed with many Choral Societies throughout the UK and, as a member of the prestigious vocal quintet Voices in Concert,
she has appeared on BBC Television, in cathedrals, National Trust Houses and at Snape Maltings. She has run a series of highly successful Music Departments
in both the state and private sectors since the age of 21 and has also taught both Singing and Harmony and Counterpoint at the University of Hull. In
particular, Janet has enjoyed phenomenal success as a choral director of both youth and adult groups.
As a member of the music department at Gresham's School for 10 years, Janet was responsible for delivering the academic programme as
well as running the Girls' Choirs, the String Orchestra and the Junior Jazz Group. She has recently retired from full-time teaching in schools to work
as a freelance musician and private teacher.
Janet was Musical Director of Fakenham Choral Society for six hugely successful seasons from 2004 to 2010. The reputation of the choir
grew considerably under her leadership, membership increased and its repertoire widened. Janet returned in September 2013 and is delighted to be back at the
helm at Fakenham Choral Society, enjoying some very exciting music-making.
